The key to devotion

I wont give the key away right now, but instead give you a cute story first.

In the cobbled bustling streets of Venice, the couriers and delivery men yell ‘Attentione’. All the tourists look up, shuffling out of the way. Its the cutest and most alarming thing to have someone yell like this as you are just meandering down a cute little Venice alley. Attentione!!!

So may I have your attention? Do you, like me find that our attention has turned into marketing currency. We are ‘consumers’ not customers, and companies want our attention focusing on how to get it, keep it, build it.

Let’s take our attention back for a moment, and turn towards the sacred, toward the privilege we have, “This Life”. Our life, is our greatest work of art. Yes each day we create through our choices. Imagine standing before this great vision, your life.

This piece of art is a living breathing piece that we get to create each day, each hour, each moment with our choices.

Our attention leads to creation. And through creation we can turn to devotion, a sense of the sacred.

Lets look at 3 pillars of building our art:

  • attention

  • creation

  • devotion

Three pillars we can each use to build an intentional life. With these 3, we can build a life that feels beautiful, that makes our hearts sing, that we feel a sense of pride in.

Lets dive into how to use these, but lets start with this:

Attention is the beginning of devotion
— Mary Oliver

Where is your attention in the morning? Are you scrolling, Facebooking, hopping on Instagram for some ‘inspiration’.

Or, do you take time to gather your attention for the day?

Might you review your values, set an intention, look at your goals and break them down.

As you gather your attention can you begin to, or imagine creating a day that feels intentional using the above prompts? A day that feels infused with ‘you’.

This could be a morning practice that you infuse with a sense of devotion? Let it become powered with a sense of gentleness, softness and heartfeltness.

Here, we are taking our attention and using it to create what our heart is calling in. Its not easy, we are certainly going aganist the grain here by not starting our day with what the world is calling in, what our modern culture is rushing towards us with… her arms full of things that it wants us to ‘need’ so we can feel happy, fulfilled, sexy. Whatever it is they are pedalling at that moment.

Let’s the reins, infuse our days with our values, make wonderful intentions, make your life the most spiritually infused, and beautiful work of art you and I can.
