Dressed for Devotion

After a decade studying and practising Yoga and enjoying many of its rituals and devotions, I took a break and realised that the breadth and depth rituals and how we live is available to US ALL.

Life itself is an invitation. And by that I mean that you don’t need to be in a religion, or a tradition, or part of a particular lineage of something (you can fill in the blank I’m sure) but if you are, cool.

Outside of the framework above, combined with new age writers and current wonderful thought leaders and its this:

YOU are the offering.

The way you dress,

The words you use,

The fragrance you wear,

All of YOU is your offering to the world.

What an offering: this cute table for 2 in the backstreets of Venice, a glass of Pinot Noir?

Its quite a wonderful thought. It could be your new ‘intention’, or could be the anchor for your new meditation, it could be written on a note and placed on your fridge (nicer than my Council Waste Calendar!!) or could be the invitation to a NEW YOU.

When I worked for Revlon Cosmetics many moons ago, we had on high rotation the ‘New Year, New You’ product reinvigoration campaign. It was successful every year because its super attractive to us. The lure, the potential, the excitement of new year or a fresh calendar is hard wired into us.

So back to our message here, could you for a handful of breaths…. consider that ‘you’ are your greatest work of art, the essence of who you are is your most unique offering?

If yes, I’d propose that you find a piece of paper or a cute notebook and some quiet time. Wear some soft and comfortable clothes, burn a candle or some sweet Japanese incense and begin to zoom out and contemplate these questions below.

  • if I’m an offering, what am I offering?

  • what am I about? consider rethinking your values.

  • are my clothes a reflection of my true essence?

  • what words am I using, are they current for me or do I need to have some fun here? (think Thesaurus)

  • what perfume/oil am I wearing? is it current? does it reflect who I am becoming?

  • what am I cooking, eating, drinking and is it current with my mood*?

  • where do I shop? (eg farmers markets, or the local mall)

“Who are you becoming?” Cate Stillmans words echo constantly in my heart.

We are always changing and becoming, the work or the fun part is to remember that and to be intentional and conscious to set the map, read the compass, or the GPS.

We are NOT set in stone.

We can be changing, evolving, growing and this keeps us interesting and interested in life.

Change is potential!

xx
