The art of possible thinking

The beauty of life is that we get to make decisions, craft a vision, hone our self talk, create beauty.

Don’t you find that just so juicy and exciting!!

Many of the new age thinkers and the ancient wisdom seekers know this to be true. From Walt Whitman to Louise Hay, from Mary Oliver to Anthony Robbins.

Its written and known, that each of us are born with certain proclivities, gifts, talents and it is our duty or our responsibility to share these with the world around us. One of my favourite ancient texts, the Bhagavad Gita talks of us each being born with gifts, and we must remain true to them, following this unseen river within us, as a path to happiness.

But many of us have been raised to ‘work on our weaknesses’, hmmm do you recall the job interview recipe of the 1990’s onwards ‘tell me what are your strengths and weaknesses’. We learned crafty ways of answering the latter part of the question by naming qualities like ‘I’m a bit obsessed with punctuality’ offering that as some sort of ‘negative’. lol. So much time spent on reshaping ourselves to be perfect, to smooth the edges of our negatives, but not much spent on naming our strengths.

I’d like to offer you:

The Art of Possible Thinking

A ritual to shape our future, a practice for reimagining, for tapping into the built in gifts and possibilities that lie within each of us.

Imagine this as a sacred time, just for you to begin to actively shape your future. Its time to take the lid off the jar, to let the creativity flow, to let the portal to ‘authenticity’ waken from its slumber.

Ready? Yay! ….. probably best to read the below first, then circle back.

Lets begin & set the mood.

Light a gorgeous candle, or a stick of beautiful incense. Make it lovely for you.

Play some relaxing tunes, current mood for me is Cleo Sol; Young Love, Promises, or Sunshine.

Wear something you feel great in. Yes, clothes matter. No use sitting here trying to dream up possibilities in your worn out old tracksuit pants and baggy t-shirt. Lets raise it up ladies!

Pour yourself a lovely tea, or a glass of your best red or white, you get the vibe!!

Place nearby a notebook or piece of paper, and a pen/pencil.

And bring yourself to sit. I’d like you to take a handful of breaths, just smooth and steady …. imagine the feeling of a slow pour of honey, that’s the feeling we are looking for. Close your eyes and follow your breath out and in, stay with it, really feel the smooth silky movement of your body breathing. Enjoy this as you start to draw your attention inward.

Begin to feel your body relaxing, shoulders softening, collarbones soft and broad, a sweet smile emerging.

Place your palms on your heart, feel its rhythm, its beat.

Write about or feel into the most elegant or refined vision of who you would like to become.
Let it flow out, put down any reservations,
release any thinking that says you don’t deserve this.
Feel into what is possible for you?
What dreams are aching to come true?
What do you keep thinking about and coming back to? (cute gold shoes, a relaxing getaway, an hour’s yoga class)
What ‘glimmers’ or shimmers are appearing in your life at the moment?
Write her out in detail, like your life depended on it. It does.

There’s a deep thread running through each of our lives. Its our response-ability to offer up and look after our deepest yearnings and dreams. This exercise is just a start, a small step forward to unearth what it is we are desiring and yearning to become.

Assignment if you choose:

Read this every day for 21 days. Write down any ideas, thoughts, inspirations as they come to you.
Jot it all down, make sure its captured in your notebook or your phone, somewhere!!!

More to come on what to do after the 21 day practice.

I am a true homework geek, I LOVE homework for this kind of activity. So do it if you feel called to, if not, hey just let it go and add to the list when things come to you.

xx
