Artists Dates

I’ve opened up The Artists Way, again. My gosh I love this book, such a storehouse of creativity nudges and gentle pushes. If you haven’t read this book and want to take a peek, here’s a link.

Also, the great thing about the book is you dont need to be ‘creative’, its a wonderful book to help if your stuck in a rut, want to uplift your routine, or need a good nudge to get out of your comfort zone and plan some activities thats fun or enjoyable for you. Total authenticity required here! One of the best things about the Artists Way is its 100% your own adventure, your own words, & what lights YOU up. No should’s here folks.

Recently my artist date was a trip to the NSW Art Gallery. It was perfect timing as the NSW Art Gallery is so cool, literally the nicest place to be in during this hot stinky summer we are having here in Sydney. And there’s so much art to see, much of it for free.

So you don’t need to suffer during summer, just head to the gallery to soak yourself in the cool air and surround yourself with beauty. Win win.

I really loved the Kandinsky exhibition, I learned so much about him and it was so interesting to see how he evolved and changed as an artist …. and he’s a seeker! His life is soaked in spirituality. I probably loved him when I studied art in the 1980’s during high school, but I have a sneaky suspicion that the ‘syllabus’ stole much of my love and fascination for art looking back.

The thing about art is that there’s so much of it available for us to enjoy. Its just starting. It might just be me, but I feel that sometimes the elite make many of us regular folks feel a bit ordinary and that makes us hesitant to go and see it.

If thats you, good news. Nature is the ultimate creative act. Think about it, sunrises and sunsets, moonlit nights and constellations, from sweet posies to rambling gardens, National Parks to your local …. I mean really the list is endless. Mother nature doesn’t take a break either, she doesnt pack it up for a few weeks while she tries to get inspired, or turn away from creating as she’s ‘not feeling it’. It just keeps on going and it there for us to enjoy.

This week, take yourself outside and sit in front of your favourite art. Sit for a while, let yourself soak it up, soak it in and let it wash over you. If you like, imagine your chosen art is an altar. There’s you, sitting before your chosen altar. Let it alter you.

Enjoy. This is the beauty of living.
