2024 ~ the ritual of review
I love the start of a new year, its fresh, its full of potential and although its really just the dawn of a new day there’s something magical about it.
But hmm, reviewing the year that’s gone, anyone enjoy casting their eyes over the past year? I’m reviewing 2024 and its a good exercise, its giving me some pretty good insights and there’s a few things I’ll do different next year.
So planning forward is fun,
but what can we take with us from the past?
Taking a review of the past year (nearly) well, that sets a different kind of tone for the year ahead.
Here we’ll chat about what worked,
what didn’t &
other fun contemplations.
Jessie Itlzer did a great free YouTube talk, 25 mins on reviewing & planning (its free & I highly recommend it). Get Light is his first point, before you plan ahead. What’s in your wardrobe that can go, what do you feel great in? That’s where he started, Get Light.
Wardrobe: What’s your favourite top? Dress? Pants? Bag? Perfume? Scarf? Shoes? Lay them out, and take note, why do you feel great in that outfit? Maybe a good outfit led to a great decision, perhaps your cute shoes took you to a place where you had an amazing conversation. Maybe your handbag, that cute one you love, was the bag you were wearing when you met a new friend? Take notes, what clothes make you feel great, and let your next purchases be in alignment with that.
Diary or anywhere you keep your appointments: write it all down from coffee dates, to dinners, functions, trips …go there; I did this on Sunday and it was ILLUMINATING. I saw who I spent consistent time with, which dates I really enjoyed, what get togethers I’d pass on next time, where we went & I can see how all that informed me. And I’ll take note moving into 2025 what I do want to do more and less of.
Day; what’s been the arc of your weekday and weekend? How would you like those to look this coming year? Eg write every day, tea before coffee, 5 mins outside in the morning sun with my cuppa. What have you noted sets you up well for the day? What’s your ideal morning structure on a workday/weekday and weekend?
Credit Card or Savings Account: any place that records your spending. We spend money on what we value, so tell me what is it you say you value and are your hard earned dollars supporting them?
So there are a few ways to cast your mind back, to give you something to work with for a little annual review.
I’ve finished mine, now I’m looking at 2025. I have a planner with a year to view and its laying open on the dining table as I begin to make and wishes on 2025.
