you: a collection of works

I used to think your life was your masterpiece, each decision a tiny brushstroke all coming together to form your masterpiece, your LIFE.

But I think its more the case that a life is a canon or a collection of works. I believe that we change and life changes us whether we like it or not, and that its not one final work showing but an exhibition.

Life is gloriously messy, its achingly beautiful, it shatters your heart and uplifts you so that your brimming with joy. Somedays its like Melbourne weather all seasons in one day.

I want to live a life that I view through a creative lens, a philosophical perspective interests me.

I’m not interested in life meaning nothing, are you?

I want to learn, to see beneath the surface, do you?

I like to talk things through, to find the nugget in it all. Head nod?

Endless days of cappuccino’s, tennis and endless prosecco doesn’t interest me.

There’s so much pleasure and satisfaction in the depths and simplicity of life.

So if we were to call it a masterpiece, you’d be there for an endless stretch of time trying to make sense of it all. And of course, we can do that looking back, hindsight is a great visitor but always arrives after the mess has gone down. But if we look at life, you and I, through a lens that appreciates all the variety, all the chapters we have lived, well that is a lens that makes sense to me.

How’s your canon of work going?

What chapter are you in now?

Are you doing your best and making the best you can out of it?
